Are you ready for SNOW DAYS??? Have you heard of our “First Alert”
program? First Alert is a system that will allow you to be called and/or e-mailed
when school is canceled, delayed, or released early. This should eliminate the
many phone calls when parents are questioning the weather. We have entered the
information that we have on file for your student so that you will receive a phone
call and or e-mail to let you know.
We still have many students who are not coming to school prepared for the
COLD weather. Please send your child/ren with a winter jacket, hat, mittens,
boots, and snow pants. Remember shoes/sneakers also so they can remove their
boots once they are inside. Thank you for your help.
As required by No Child Left Behind, each district is issued a report card which
includes information related to assessments, accountability, and teacher quality as
that information applies to the district as a whole and as it applies to each school
served by the district. The MSAD #43 Report Card can be found at
Office.
Our Parent and Children Together (PACT) program is up and running! This is
a program for parents and their children ages 4-6 and their siblings. Come to enjoy

Internet Safety: Tips for Parents May 2008
If your children use MySpace, please be aware that the minimum age for joining MySpace is 14. For parent information about MySpace, see http://www.netsmartz411.org/
Encourage children to use monitored networking sites. Some aimed at elementary children are Imbee, Whyville, and Club Penguin. However, parents need to review these sites with their children to see if they are appropriate.
Encourage children to use kidfriendly search engines. The RES School Library website has several links to search engines for children.
Teach children what kinds of personal information they should never disclose.
Teach children not to talk online with anyone they do not know in person.
If your children spend time at friends' houses, make sure you know how that family monitors Internet use and make sure they know what you expect.
Remind children that nothing online is private and nothing ever really goes away.
If they meet someone online who may be a predator, make sure they know to tell you, the police, the website, and/or your Internet Service Provider.

There has been some confusion about the number of storm days we’ve had this year and when they are to be made up. We chose not to change the workshop days to student days but to add them to the end of the school year (with all the other make up days). As of today, our last day of school is June 18 (a Wednesday). Our students will attend school the same number of days they have attended in the past.

We believe we may have another round of Fifth’s Disease. It is characterized by a bright red
rash on the face and a lacy rash on arms and legs. By the time we see a rash children are no
longer contagious. The only people this disease poses a risk to is pregnant women. This notice
is just to make parents aware of this rash so that you can let anyone know who may be at risk.
Please call (school nurse) Tracy Pinkham with any questions.
You may have noticed that York Street gets VERY congested in the morning and at
dismissal time. It is currently being posted for no parking on the school side of York Street to
allow busses to get through safely. This has presented a problem by having people blocking the
entrances to the staff parking lot. Please do not do this! We have staff who work in other
buildings and need to get out on a timely basis. Thank you for your cooperation.
Just a reminder that “wheelie” sneakers are not allowed in school. Your child could come home
without them.

Wednesday, Jan. 30 Late Start Day
To help you plan ahead the Maine Education Assessment (MEA), a very important statewide test for all grade 3, 4, & 5 students, will be given from March 3 through March 19. Please make every effort to make sure that your child is in school on these days. It would be appreciated if you would not schedule any appointments on these days.
Another reminder…there is a change in the charging policy (the full letter is on the back from the nutrition director). Any student with an outstanding bill as of Monday, January 7, will only be allowed the cheese sandwich lunch until the bill is paid. Remember you can track your child’s account on Powerschool. If you have any questions, please call Jeanne LaPointe at 364-7896 extension 227.
Please send your child with proper clothing every day. We may be staying in for one recess and the weather warms up enough for us to go out for a later recess.
