Reading |
Students are engaged in reading activities for 60 minutes a day. These activities may include Independent Reading, Guided Readng, and Interactive Read Aloud. |
Writing |
The fifth grade writing program consists of 45-60 minutes of writing per day. Students typically work on writing fiction, non-fiction, personal narratives, essays, as well as a wide variety of other types of writing. |
Word Study |
Word Study includes spelling and vocabulary instruction. |
Math |
Trailblazers is the guiding material used in our Math program. It focuses on hands-on experiences for students as well as providing daily practice in basic skills. |
Social Studies |
Students study American History in fifth grade, from Exploration through Westward Expansion. This includes in-depth units on the colonization of the United States, the American Revolution, and American Government. |
Science |
Students complete an in-depth unit on Human Body Systems, with mini-units on Space, Fossils, and Heredity. |
Health |
Students complete a unit on Health and Nutrition, which culminates in the Healthy Menu Project. Students also participate in the D.A.R.E. Program and weekly Guidance classes. |
