Reading
Students are engaged in reading activities for 60 minutes a day.  These activities may include Independent Reading, Guided Readng, and Interactive Read Aloud.
Writing
The fifth grade writing program consists of 45-60 minutes of writing per day.  Students typically work on writing fiction, non-fiction, personal narratives, essays, as well as a wide variety of other types of writing.
Word Study
Word Study includes spelling and vocabulary instruction.
Math
Trailblazers is the guiding material used in our Math program.  It focuses on hands-on experiences for students as well as providing daily practice in basic skills.  
Social Studies
Students study American History in fifth grade, from Exploration through Westward Expansion.  This includes in-depth units on the colonization of the United States, the American Revolution, and American Government.
Science
Students complete an in-depth unit on Human Body Systems, with mini-units on Space, Fossils, and Heredity.
Health
Students complete a unit on Health and Nutrition, which culminates in the Healthy Menu Project.  Students also participate in the D.A.R.E. Program and weekly Guidance classes.
